Keep compressed images clear

VagaTools editorial · Updated 9 October 2026

Start with the intended display size. File size depends on pixel dimensions, format and quality; lowering quality alone can blur text and details.

Steps

1. Save the original and note its dimensions. 2. Decide whether the image is a photo, screenshot or transparent graphic. 3. Resize while keeping the aspect ratio. 4. Export at a high quality, then reduce it gradually. 5. Check the result on desktop and mobile.

Format choice

Photos often suit WebP or JPG. Screenshots may suit PNG or WebP. JPG cannot preserve transparency. A converted file can grow if the output dimensions or quality are higher.
